What “Destacar” car sourcing services in Germany cost

Buying a car abroad calls for careful planning, enough time and preparation of every detail and document. When you cannot do it all yourself, it is very useful to draw on the help of experienced people who have long been assisting with buying vehicles abroad and handling their paperwork. In this article we look at the types of services offered by “Destacar” and at what it costs to bring a car from Germany.

Paying for the technical inspection

The basic stage of working with “Destacar” is selecting a vehicle and assessing its condition. From the options you propose, we choose a worthy one. We then carry out a full inspection, which costs 260 €.

The price includes:

• Checking the paintwork and the exterior condition of the car.
• Assessing the electronic control units and identifying faults in their operation.
• Establishing the mileage.
• A test drive.

Getting “acquainted” with the car in person makes it possible to establish the true facts; you cannot rely solely on the description on the Internet, where the information may be inaccurate or distorted. When we are done, we compile precise information and prepare a report with photo and video material, describing the details thoroughly. The sum also includes a consultation with recommendations from a professional.

You need to understand that car prices in Germany vary, and there is no point in ordering a car costing 2000 €. In that case the inspection will cost 25% of the sum.

Paying for the organisational side

Organising the deal covers two categories: the route and the negotiations.

A separate fee is payable for the trip to the dealer, where the inspection takes place. The price per 1 km is 1,40 €. The distance is calculated from the “Destacar” office to the location of the dealership. These rates are in line with average market prices and fully cover the travel costs.

You will also need to pay the company a percentage if our specialist managed to obtain a discount. What does that mean? Say you want to order a car from Germany whose price is listed on the website at 16,000 €. Suppose our employee managed to knock 600 euros off the price, squeezing out the maximum possible discount by pointing out the car's shortcomings. For this service you pay 50% of the discount obtained from the dealership, in this case 300 euros.

We have no hidden surcharges or mark-up schemes. Everything is transparent and honest.

It is hard to say in advance what the service will cost, because the size of the discount itself cannot be known beforehand. It has to be worked for: “working on” the dealer, haggling with them, and only then calculating the sum.

VAT refund and customs clearance costs

Usually VAT is handled automatically, but in rare cases assistance is needed to resolve difficulties that arise. For these services we charge 10% of the VAT.

We also charge 15% of the VAT when the dealer does not want to sell the car for export and the sale has to go through the company “Destacar”. This works as follows: our company buys the car from the dealership and immediately sells it on to you. No new owner is added to the contract; the documents are drawn up in your name. This happens extremely rarely, because we check with the dealer in good time whether a deal of a particular kind will go through: for export, for a private buyer.
