SERVICES
Test first.
Then act precisely.
An air-conditioning system loses up to ten per cent of its charge every year. Topping it up does not fix that, it only postpones it by one season.
Service and refill
Recovery, vacuum, drying and the exact charge specified by the manufacturer. Oil and dye only where they belong.
Diagnosis
Fault memory read from the climate control unit, pressure curves on the high and low side, and the actual cooling output measured.
Compressor
Function, control and noise under load. After compressor failure we flush the system, otherwise swarf travels through all of it.
Performance
From small hatchbacks to SUVs: better cooling at lower consumption, and a longer life for the system through regular service.
Cabin and hygiene
Steam cleaning of the air ducts against smell and germs, cabin filter to the manufacturer's spec.
REFRIGERANT
Why your air-conditioning service got more expensive.
Since 1 January 2026 the EU charges a levy of €3 per tonne of CO₂ equivalent on fluorinated greenhouse gases. It hits the two refrigerants very differently.
Vehicles up to about 2017, and plenty of models beyond. Under quota, and rising in price for years.

That is why we bill refrigerant separately and by the quantity actually filled. You pay for what goes into your car, not a flat fee for the bottle.

All prices include 19% VAT. Refrigerant is billed by actual fill quantity: €0.18 per gram of R-134a, €0.30 per gram of R-1234yf. Diagnostic work beyond the check is charged by time, always with your prior approval.

How often does the air conditioning need servicing?
Every two years is the usual interval, regardless of mileage. Even a healthy system loses up to ten per cent of its refrigerant each year. If cooling drops off sooner, that is not a service item but a sign of a leak.
Why is simply topping it up not enough?
Because refrigerant is not consumed, it escapes. Top up only, and the system is empty again next season and you have paid twice. That is why we test for leaks first and fill afterwards.
How do I know which refrigerant my car uses?
Usually there is a sticker in the engine bay, often on the bonnet or near the radiator. Cars from 2017 onwards generally use R1234yf, older ones R134a. If in doubt we settle it from the chassis number before you drive over.
How long does the appointment take?
The check with a written finding takes about half an hour. A full service with recovery, vacuum and refill takes around an hour. Add a leak trace and you should allow more time.
Is it worth doing this in winter?
Yes, and it is actually the better time. In spring every workshop is full; in winter you get an appointment sooner. The system should be run regularly in winter anyway, so the compressor stays lubricated.
The air conditioning smells musty. Will a refill help?
No. The smell comes from moisture and germs in the evaporator and the air ducts, and has nothing to do with the refrigerant level. What helps is steam cleaning the air ducts, usually together with a new cabin filter.
