Suspension work: from symptoms to an agreed repair

Knocking, vibration and uneven tyre wear call for an inspection. A noise described in a message is not enough to name the part or the cost of the repair with any confidence. Start by describing the symptoms and the conditions in which they appear.

What is checked

During the inspection, the condition of the accessible suspension components, mountings and protective elements is assessed. The check may cover play, shock absorbers, springs, control arms and joints. The scope depends on the vehicle's design and on the complaint. Disassembly and any additional operations are agreed separately.

How the work is agreed

After diagnosis, the cause, the list of parts and the work required are determined. Part replacement, cost, timing and whether a wheel alignment check is needed are agreed before the repair begins. It is not advisable to buy parts yourself before the cause has been established.
