Why the SOS button is needed

Under the new rules, the location of a vehicle involved in an accident is determined by special equipment via satellite. In the car, GLONASS takes the form of an SOS button built into the dashboard that connects to a contact centre. At the “ERA-GLONASS” centre the signals are processed and the relevant services are coordinated: the traffic police (GIBDD) and the emergency ministry (MChS).

The device transmits the following data:

• the coordinates of the accident scene;
• the speed before impact;
• the vehicle parameters (make, fuel type);
• the number of passengers wearing seat belts, and more.

A response team is then dispatched to the given coordinates to investigate and provide assistance.
