The Competition Paket in detail

In this package the engine output was raised by 19 hp to 450 hp. The extra power also means better performance. The BMW M4 Coupé with the 7-speed gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds (without the Competition Paket: 4.1 s).

The Competition Paket also includes the adaptive M suspension, which has been carefully tuned for higher performance and handling. There are three driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport +). The standard active M differential on the rear axle and Dynamic Stability Control have likewise been tuned to match the updated dynamics.

The Competition Paket also stands out with exclusive forged, machined wheels. They are optimised for weight and rigidity. These wheels also differ in width front and rear: front 265/30 R20, rear 285/30 R20.

For the BMW M4 Coupé the Competition Paket brings special lightweight M sports seats, which combine excellent lateral support for fast driving with exceptional comfort on long journeys.

Seat belts with woven BMW M stripes underline the sporty atmosphere of the interior.

The Competition Paket for the BMW M4 is complemented by the extensive BMW Shadow Line exterior trim with additional elements in High-Gloss Black, running from the radiator grille across the “gills” and ending in black chrome exhaust tailpipes.

The attractive exterior features of the Competition Paket include the M sports exhaust system with black tailpipes. The most distinctive feature of the M sports exhaust system is its powerful sound, which adds extra emotional resonance to the driving experience.

The colour is verde mantis, the paint used on the Lamborghini Huracan. It costs around 3500€ and, by the way, is not available in the configurator. There are individual paints for 1590€, but none as vivid as this.

Additional information on the engines

In the standard version, the power unit fitted to the BMW M4, a 6-cylinder 3.0 l M TwinPower Turbo engine, delivers 431 hp. The engine revs to 7600 rpm, and peak torque is 550 Nm. The figures of this power unit are enough to take the coupé from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. For the limited M4 Competition and M4 CS series the engine output is raised to 450 and 460 hp (the sprint to 100 km/h takes 4 and 3.9 seconds respectively). There is also the track-focused BMW M4 GTS with a 500 hp engine (reportedly a quota of four cars was allocated to Russia), which reaches 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Average fuel consumption is 8.8 l/100 km. The fuel tank holds 60 litres.

So what is the difference between the M4 CS and the standard M4?

More power, less weight, a special set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and recalibrated software for the adaptive dampers, the active differentials and the engine management. And a lot of carbon fibre.

Peak output from the twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six is 454 hp, roughly 30 hp more than the standard M4 and 10 hp more than the Competition. Still, “it is not the extra 10 horsepower, it is more the extra 50 Nm”, says van Meel. Maximum torque is up to 443 newton metres, the same figure as the M4 GTS.

There is no manual gearbox option for the M4 CS, which comes exclusively with the 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission. The new BMW M4 CS will be built for just one year. A BMW M4 can be bought in Germany for 117 thousand euros.
